About Me

Like you, I live a full life, am passionate about my work and strive for balance - sometimes successfully!  I teach aqua fitness classes (mostly to older people), provide dog foster care for a local animal shelter, play with my 3-year old granddaughter, & am a not-for-profit consultant with our local SCORE chapter, specializing in strategic learning and board development.  In addition to whatever foster animals may be in residence, I share my home with my adult son and several companion animals.

I like to support other women in their life quests, and in that capacity, I've just completed a service as campaign treasurer for a friend.

About Me

My inner life and much of my outer life is devoted to my lifelong work as a poet (and also a performer, translator, teacher, and writer about poetry.)  I've published five books of poetry, much of it inspired by women and spirituality.  Some of my poems are chants that I've written for rituals and sacred celebrations, and others are collaborations with music, dance, visual art, or theater.

I feel that all of my poems come from the Muse-Goddess, whether they come to me quickly or take ten or even twenty years to complete.  Much of the meaning of my poems is in their sound, so they are meant to be read aloud. Here's one for all of my new friends in the Circle:

FRIEND

Friend of my blooming, ripening friend,

Keeper of changes, we give and we bend.

Land to my ocean, seed to my flower,

Move with me into power.

Though I change with you, you change me alone

As we go ripening, blooming or done.

Flower I grow into, sea to my sand,

This is what we command.

I travel frequently to give readings of my poetry.  I am also a professor at USM, where I work as Director of the wonderful Stonecoast graduate program in creative writing.  New writing projects include books on wolves, a memoir, and a cookbook.

I live in Falmouth on the southern Maine coast and love being there, near the ocean and woods and my family.   I've trained in reiki and am interested in energy work, herbalism from Susun Weed, Rubenfeld Synergy and other body-mind therapies, yoga, and hiking. I feel this is an important time for women to connect with each other, and I am looking forward to being part of the Women's Institute.

I keep a website with a spiral of poems at http://www.anniefinch.com

About Me

In many ways, this is a time of harvest in my life. It doesn't seem possible that I opened my career counseling business 20 years ago. After two decades with the same organization, many people would be up for a change. But, since I own the business, I can make changes to my business, Heart At Work,  that reflect my interests and priorities and keep me engaged in meaningful work.

Ten years ago, as my only child prepared to leave for college, I added a program to my business that was life-changing for me. "A Women's retreat in Provence" perfectly blended my Franco-American heritage and undergraduate French major, counseling training and interest in women's journeys. It was a rich and spontaneous idea that seemed to emerge directly from my experience of loss. The tenth retreat, scheduled for May 2010, will invite experienced coaches and guides to explore portals and thresholds they are noticing in their lives as they literally journey to another country.

While retreats in Provence make for interesting conversation, they are planned only once or twice a year. The rest of the time I offer one-to-one career counseling to people considering or in the midst of a career or work transition. In part because of my own life stage, I particular enjoy working with both men and women in the second half of life, or in the "third age" as life after 50 is becoming known.

About Me

Hi everyone,

I am a recently retired addictions counselor and newly ordained (3 years now) Interfaith Minister.  I am in the processs of reinventing myself AGAIN.   I have tried on different hats over the past ten years or so, and find  that my calling  really is to ministry - not in the traditional sense -but in the sense of a spiritual partner who will listen deeply and share experiences with other women, lending and receiving support as we journey together in this life toward wholeness.

l  I have lived a long time,  sixty-five years now,  and have much to share.  I am a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  I have studied women's psychology, our spirituality and our history for  twenty years.  During this time I have taught, counseled, and educated  women as well as their families.  Prior to this I had a career with the Federal Government where I had the opportunity to travel extensively as part of a national training team.  During this time I became well aware both personally and collectively  of the harm done to women, often by other women, as well as the patriarchal culture we live in    I have come to know that this wounding of women by women is not unusual.

I believe that NOW is the time where women must make their unconscious conscious.  By that I mean we must look at our history to see where our unconscious drives are leading us and then to correct and rebalance, for our world is in a critical state right now and it reqires action.  ACTION by women, by becoming conscious, and then by leading the way to peaceful resolution.  This does take courage - we need courage and commitment right now in order to save our children and to save the planet.  Together we can do it!

Bonnie-kate

Thank you Laurie for building this site and for visioning the Women's Institute of Maine.

Life has been one big rollercoaster of opportunities in the past couple of years and I am enjoying the ride and trying to remember to pause for breath. I am looking forward to seeing the evolving naure of your online community and hearing about your journeys as you grow together as women of Maine...How exciting...

About Me

My name is Cinda which is Celtic for the bringing out of light and I bring light to youth and adults in my area. I have been an artist for 35 years who is living near Sebago Lake region about 30 minutes from Portland Maine. I work in the following mediums, stained glass, pottery, painting, drawing, video, photography, metal work and jewelry to name a few areas. I do mosaic work which is very different, and bead some of my stained works after making them. I also use reclaimed glass in the windows with beach glass, broken pottery, glass blobs, rocks and more.

I make very unique stained glass sun catchers called HOME with reclaimed old glass from early 1900s New England homes, greenhouses and church windows. Each sun catcher is different and uses reclaimed glass and regular stained glass and looks like it has windows. I have enclosed some photos of traditional and non traditional work I do. I do private lessons, local adult education classes in stained glass, pottery, beading and tile painting. I have been a juried member of Gallery 302 in Bridgton Maine and displayed for four years.

I have worked with youth doing these projects as a Youth and Mentor Coordinator at a local Community Center in Bridgton Maine. I worked with children from kindergarten to 12th grade in community gardens, after school programs, Youth Advocacy Programs; all these programs promote productive factors and decrease risk factors in our youth. These programs are based on service learning, the Discovery Kids after school environmental club worked in community gardens, trails and did garden art. Another group I created with a partnership with a local TV station is called Videomakers and the youth learned how to run TV cameras, video equipment and edit and make their own Public Service Announcements and videos and volunteer to film local school and community events.

So if you have been looking for a Sun Catcher to bring some majesty to your home, come and create Stained Glass in one day! A great way to get your feet wet and experience what fun this art medium can be. All materials and equipment for this project provided for. Come join Cinda Roy who will teach you the basic techniques of them copper foil technique, no skills needed for this class, step-by-step instructions on cutting glass, foiling, and soldering, to the final steps of completing your project to take home.

Cinda Roy has been involved in The Art of Stained Glass for over 35 years and I still get excited every time I discover a stained glass installation that I have never seen before. The beauty of the interplay of the vibrant colors, textures, and designs has a mesmerizing effect that pulls me in. You may have felt the magnetic draw of a stained glass object that you have seen an ecclesiastical window at a place of worship, a tiffany style lampshade in an antique shop, a contemporary room divider at a restaurant, a jewelry box, or sun catcher in a gift store. If you have experienced the wonder of stained glass, then it may be time for you to find out how you can get started creating your own exciting Sun Catcher with The Art of Stained Glass.

About Me

I am excited to be alive at this powerful time on the Earth and am devoted to living a sacred and spiritual life deeply connected to Mother Earth and the Universe, based in love and compassion for myself and ALL beings. I am devoted to living in and from my heart and to being a sacred vessel for the Love of the Divine Feminine to flow through and the Light of the Divine Masculine to shine forth, a vessel of Love, Compassion, Beauty, Grace, Truth and Wisdom. I believe that LOVE is the greatest healing elixir there is and that it is time on the earth to move beyond all separation and division and to come together as One People of the One Heart in Unity Consciousness, Love and Divine Union; where all people honor and respect each other, where there is Peace, harmony and understanding between ALL beings, where we all Awaken to know that we are truly ONE PEOPLE, ONE EARTH. This is my highest vision, my greatest passion, my heart-felt desire, and is what I live my life for.

To this vision, I have lovingly offered myself in sacred service for the past 30 years as a transpersonal psychotherapist, soul counselor, spiritual guide, planetary priestess, way-shower, ceremonialist, group facilitator, writer, energy healer, sister, mother and Lover of ALL. I am here to assist others in the deep healing, transformation and flowering of their Soul, to support their personal and spiritual growth, to help them Awaken their deepest inner Self, the Divine Presence that dwells within. I am passionate about helping to empower the Feminine in all beings and to assisting in the healing and sacred marriage of the feminine & masculine, yin & yang, God & Goddess within all beings.

I co-direct The Spiritual Renaissance Center: A Counseling, Healing & Spiritual Center located in South Portland with my husband Leo, and together we publish a quarterly publication called Spiritual Renaissance. I am now seeding a spiritual wisdom school called SOPHIA: School of Planetary Healing, Illumination and Awakening and offer a sacred temple space: Temple of the Heart that is intended to anchor love's presence on Earth.
